Black Friday falls on 27 November this year, and plain, practical storage is a sensible thing to shop for in the sales: you know in advance what you need and how many. Here are eight organiser types worth watching if you live in a small home, plus how to check a deal is real before you buy.
Short on time? Our quick picks
- Best to stock up on: Slim velvet hangers
- Best for small bedrooms: Under-bed storage boxes
- Best bigger buy: Storage ottoman or bench
1. Vacuum storage bags
Compress spare duvets, pillows and out-of-season clothes so they take up far less room. Mixed-size multipacks are the ones to watch.
2. Under-bed storage boxes
The space under the bed is often the biggest unused storage in a small bedroom. Lidded boxes on wheels are easiest to live with, and soft zipped bags suit low bed frames.
3. Slim velvet hangers
Thinner than chunky plastic or wooden hangers, so more fits on the same rail, and the flocked surface stops clothes slipping off. They are sold in large packs, which is where a discount adds up.
4. Airtight food storage containers
Matching, stackable containers use the cupboard height that half-empty packets waste. A full set adds up, so it is a sensible one to save for the sales.
5. Stackable storage boxes with lids
The plain clear box, for wardrobe tops, cupboards and lofts. Buy one size in a batch so they stack squarely.
6. Drawer organiser sets
Dividers or small trays that stop kitchen, bathroom and sock drawers turning into a jumble. Only buy sets that match your drawer measurements.
7. Slim rolling storage trolley
A narrow trolley on castors that slides into the gap beside a fridge, washing machine or toilet. Check the width in the listing against your gap before ordering.
8. Storage ottoman or bench
A seat, a footstool and a storage box in one, and a larger item worth holding off for. Useful at the end of a bed or in a hallway.
Before you buy
- Measure now, not on the day. Deals can sell out quickly, and measuring is the first thing skipped in a rush.
- Write a short list. Decide what you need and how many. A cheap organiser with no home is still clutter.
- Declutter first. Storage bought before a clear-out usually ends up holding things you did not want to keep.

What to measure before the sales start
- Under the bed. Measure from the floor to the lowest part of the frame, and the clear width between the legs. UK mattresses come in standard sizes (a single is 90 x 190 cm, a double 135 x 190 cm), but legs and any centre support reduce the usable space underneath.
- Wardrobe rail. Measure the rail length and count your current hangers, so you know how many slim ones to buy.
- Kitchen cupboards. UK wall cupboards are commonly around 30 cm deep on the outside and base units nearer 56–60 cm, but sizes vary. Measure the inside depth, width and shelf spacing before choosing containers.
- Drawers. Measure the internal width, depth and height. Height is the one most people forget.
How to tell if a deal is real
Consumer group Which? has repeatedly reported that most of the Black Friday deals it checked were the same price or cheaper at other times of the year. Real discounts exist, but the “was” price on a listing is not proof of one.
- Note today’s price now, so you have your own comparison.
- Use a free price-history tracker to see what the item has sold for in recent months.
- For multipacks, work out the price per bag, box or hanger. A bigger pack is not always cheaper per item.
- Ignore countdown timers. If the item was not on your list, the timer is not a reason to buy it.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying mixed sets you will only half use. One size that fits your shelf beats a set of ten odd shapes.
- Assuming lids are included. Check the listing, especially for boxes sold in batches.
- Over-compressing feather or down bedding. It can lose its loft if kept squashed flat for long periods, so check the care label and leave a little air in the bag.
Common questions
When is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?
Black Friday is on Friday 27 November 2026, with Cyber Monday on 30 November. Amazon and other retailers usually run deals for a week or more around those dates, but the exact start varies from year to year, so check nearer the time.
Are Black Friday storage deals actually cheaper?
Sometimes. Storage is discounted at other points in the year too, so a Black Friday price is not automatically the lowest. Checking the price history is the most reliable way to tell.
What storage is worth buying in bulk?
Things you use many of and that need to match: hangers, vacuum bags, food containers and same-size boxes. Buying them in one go means they stack and line up properly.
Can I return Black Friday purchases?
For most online orders in the UK you have 14 days from delivery to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, then a further 14 days to send the item back. Some retailers extend their returns period before Christmas, and there are exceptions, so check the returns policy on the listing before you order.
